Request labels
Section titled “Request labels”Set providerOptions["vertex"]["labels"] to an object of string values to attach billing and usage labels to a Claude request. Generate and stream calls encode its UTF-8 JSON as a base64 x-vertex-ai-labels header. An explicit request or provider header takes precedence regardless of casing. Labels stay isolated to each call; they are omitted from the Anthropic request body. Invalid labels fail before network I/O.
Vertex Anthropic mirrors upstream Google Vertex 5.0.122 and inherits the shared Anthropic 4.0.82 model recognition, system options, thinking behavior, citations, and beta headers. The 2026-10-18 pass: Validated labels are UTF-8 JSON/base64 encoded into x-vertex-ai-labels after final request-header merging, with explicit caller header precedence.
